Born and raised in West London, Jonny started his musical life playing the Church Organ at Mass every Sunday from the age of 13. During his late teen years, although progressing rapidly as an organist, Jonny started teaching himself jazz piano.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music & Trinity Laban, Jonny gigs all over London and has performed at many London venues (Royal Albert Hall, Pizza Express & Bush Hall to name a few). In 2019, he played keyboards for Mica Paris at The Round Chapel, Clapton and performed with Cuban jazz violinist Omar Puente at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival & the Southbank Centre. He recently performed with his Quintet at Soul Mama as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2025.
Jonny has led his own band for the past 6 years releasing numerous albums/EPs under his name - Influences (2025), The Next Chapter (2023), A Message Through Sound (2022), Mellow Mind (2020), New Days & Past Times (2019). As a composer & band leader, he has performed at Pizza Express Soho, 606 Club, 91 Living Room, Hampstead Jazz Club, Crazy Coqs, The Bear Club, The East Side Jazz Club & Jazz Cafe Posk amongst many other London venues.
Jonny's most recent release is a new 2 track single Sunset Islands / Sunrise Islands (2026) under the Jonny Liebeck Group on the label Terrasolare.
Drawing from his roots in classical and jazz music, Jonny’s sound is also heavily influenced by latin jazz, funk & electronic dance music genres such as house, jungle & breakbeat, and he blends these influences together in his writing, creating a very interesting and unique sound.
With a huge passion for electronic dance music, Jonny has released several EPs as a producer as well as being an active Jungle DJ under the alias Jonny Gemini.
